				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Over the last several years most service organizations have made significant investments in CRM, field service software, and/or spare parts management and planning solutions. The principal reasons: to improve service efficiency, strengthen customer satisfaction, control service costs, increase service revenues, and boost service’s contribution to the corporate bottom line.  While some have seen significant advances, many service organizations are still struggling to thoroughly analyze and understand their performance. Without that in-depth understanding, it’s difficult, if not nearly impossible, to develop and execute plans for improvement.  In fact, four in ten service organizations report that the data they rely on to analyze and understand their service performance is poor, or average at best; only one in four say that data is very good<sup>(1)</sup>. While many organizations have some notion of reporting and business intelligence, an accurate and complete Service Performance Framework is much broader and requires a more scientific approach focused specifically on service.  A true Service Performance Framework presents a strategic blueprint, which service organizations can use to create and sustain service excellence.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Welcome to this week’s edition of WeeklyJolt, the Jolt Consulting Group blog. We would like to thank those of you who provided responses to our question on the state of the Gartner magic quadrant.  Much to my surprise, organizations don&#8217;t really seem to place significant value on the rankings and as a result don&#8217;t really miss them.  Some of our responses included, &#8220;We don&#8217;t really use the magic quadrant&#8230;.we&#8217;ve found the information superficial&#8221;; &#8220;Gartner is more important to IT folks than to service executives&#8221;; &#8220;While an interesting data point, it is only one input into our evaluation process, so not having them this year isn&#8217;t really a big deal&#8221;.   Thank you to everyone who responded including Kevin M (MA), our 14th responder and Amazon gift card winner! Now onto this week&#8217;s topic &#8212; Is there value in Linkedin groups?</p>
<p>The explosion of social media and its incorporation into everyday life has changed the way we operate.  Tools such as Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin enable us to continually be plugged into what&#8217;s happening in the world and to have our say in what that world hears.  From a business perspective, Linkedin appears to have obtained the greatest traction as it provides a vehicle for keeping in touch with colleagues, gaining insight into others professional activities or associating with others sharing the similar interests via Linkedin groups.  While I&#8217;m willing to bet that virtually everyone reading this post belongs to one or more groups, the question is do you really obtain value from your participation?  From my perspective, it seems that service oriented groups are dominated by a few individuals with their own agenda&#8217;s (e.g. selling something) and continually throw out topics for discussion hoping that something will be interesting.  If you watch closely, however you will find most of these posts generate very few responses or comments, leading to the question of value.  Don&#8217;t get me wrong, there are good (great) groups out there, as well as individuals who post within the service groups that are trying to foster discussion, share knowledge, or raise the general awareness of the business of service.  Despite the noble attempts of some, is the value of Linkedin Groups, especially within the service arena, so adversely affected by habitual &#8220;posters&#8221; that the overall group suffers? </p>
